Abstract

This study examined the effects of lexical-oriented language teaching on students’ performance in Russian. Sixty students participated in a quasi-experimental design with pre- and post-testing. For 16 weeks, the control group was taught new words from a Russian language textbook based on traditional vocabulary teaching methods such as translation and explanation. Meanwhile, the experimental group was taught new words using lexical-oriented language teaching methods including noticing, recording language patterns and collocations, and working with co-ordinates. The results showed a significant difference between the achievements of the two groups in favor of the experimental group in increasing vocabulary.
